My Fatherly Plea to Every Eritrean in the Diaspora Who Dreams of a Bright Future for the Eritrean People
I am writing to appeal to all of you, my fellow Eritrean brothers and sisters, to support the efforts of the Registration and Election Commission, which is currently engaged in registering justice-seeking, pro-democracy Eritreans throughout the diaspora.
The ultimate objective of this registration process is to elect a representative body that will help lead and facilitate the democratization of Eritrea. Such a body, elected by and accountable to the people it represents, can provide the unity, legitimacy, and coordination that have long been missing from the struggle for democratic change.
If our dream of a bright future for the Eritrean people is to become a reality, those who aspire to see an end to Eritrea’s long nightmare must unite behind a common purpose: bringing an end to dictatorship and paving the way for democratic governance, justice, and the rule of law.
As we all know, Eritrea remains one of the poorest countries in the world. Despite the resilience and hard work of its people and its resources, decades of authoritarian rule have left the country politically isolated, economically stagnant, and socially fractured. Eritrea has also become one of the largest producers of refugees relative to its population size. Tragically, the regime continues to drain the nation of its most valuable resource—its youth—forcing countless young Eritreans to flee their homeland in search of freedom, opportunity, and hope.
This tragic reality should compel all of us, regardless of our political affiliations, organizational memberships, regional backgrounds, or religious beliefs, to work together toward the common goal of building a democratic Eritrea where future generations can live in peace, dignity, and prosperity.

The Registration and Election Commission offers us an opportunity to take an important step in that direction. I therefore urge every justice-seeking Eritrean in the diaspora to register and elect a representative body.
For those who may not be familiar with the work of the Registration and Election Commission, it is a body that emerged from the deliberations of Kufut MeAdi Zete (KMZ).
Kufut MeAdi Zete (KMZ) was established in 2021 by a group of concerned Eritreans living primarily in Switzerland, Germany, other European countries, the United States, and Canada. The group met weekly on Sundays to discuss developments affecting Eritrea and to explore ways of advancing democratic change. Its meetings are open to anyone willing to share ideas and participate in constructive dialogue.
During one of these Sunday meetings, participants devoted an entire session to discussing what justice-seeking Eritreans in the diaspora could do to help bring democratic change to Eritrea. A broad consensus quickly emerged. Participants agreed that one of the principal reasons the opposition had been unable to exert meaningful influence was its fragmentation and lack of coordination. They concluded that Eritreans in the diaspora needed a legitimately elected global representative body capable of coordinating efforts across organizations, movements, and regions.
At a subsequent meeting attended by representatives of several organizations and independent activists within the opposition camp, agreement was reached to establish a Facilitating Body composed of various activist groups. Its mandate was to develop a mechanism through which a global representative body could be democratically elected.
The KMZ Facilitating Body agreed that, to be legitimate, the proposed global representative body must be elected by and accountable to justice-seeking, pro-democracy Eritreans throughout the diaspora. It was further agreed that such a body should represent the collective aspirations of Eritreans who seek democratic change, justice, and the rule of law in Eritrea.
To achieve this objective, the Registration and Election Commission was established on August 30, 2025. The Commission has developed a registration system and has already begun the registration process.

My appeal is directed to members of:
- All Eritrean political organizations;
- Brigade N’Hamedu;
- The Yiakl Movement;
- Bright Future;
- Felisi;
- Eritrean women’s organizations;
- Independent activists and concerned Eritreans who are not affiliated with any organization but who care deeply about the plight of the Eritrean people and remain committed to Eritrea’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
I respectfully urge all of you to register using the above registration link and participate in the election process that will take place after the registration process is completed. By doing so, you will help establish a legitimate and representative global body capable of uniting Eritreans across organizational, regional, religious, and political lines in pursuit of a democratic future for our country.
This is an opportunity to move beyond fragmentation and toward collective action. If we are serious about bringing democratic change to Eritrea, we must be equally serious about building the institutions that can effectively represent and mobilize the will of the Eritrean people. So, I appeal to you to register without any further delay.
My Appeal to Leaders of Eritrean Political Parties and Movements
I have great respect for the leaders of Eritrean political parties and movements who, through years of sacrifice and perseverance, have demonstrated their commitment to the establishment of a multiparty democratic system in Eritrea. The vision of a democratic Eritrea founded on political pluralism, justice, and the rule of law is a dream shared by all justice-seeking Eritreans.
However, before Eritrea can become a multiparty democracy, our first and most urgent priority must be to bring an end to the current dictatorial regime. The task of removing dictatorship and creating the conditions for democratic governance cannot and should not be left solely to political parties or movements. It is a national responsibility that requires the collective effort of all justice-seeking Eritreans, both within the country and throughout the diaspora.
To succeed, Eritreans who seek democratic change must find ways to work together, speak with a united voice, and act in a coordinated manner. Fragmentation has long weakened our ability to exert meaningful influence. Unity of purpose, while respecting differences of opinion and political affiliation, is essential if we are to achieve our common goal.
It is in this spirit that I respectfully appeal to the leaders of all Eritrean political parties to publicly support the efforts of the Registration and Election Commission. I further urge them to encourage their members and supporters to register and participate in the electoral process being administered by the Registration and Election Commission.
By doing so, political parties and movements will not only strengthen this important initiative but will also contribute to the creation of a legitimate and representative body capable of coordinating the efforts of justice-seeking Eritreans worldwide. Such a body can serve as an important step toward building the unity and collective strength needed to advance democratic change in Eritrea.
No doubt, the future of our country depends on our ability to rise above division and work together for the common good of the Eritrean people. Let us seize this opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to that noble cause.
My Appeal to Religious Leaders
I believe Eritrean religious leaders of all denominations can play a powerful role in encouraging justice-seeking Eritreans to support the efforts of the Registration and Election Commission. By urging their communities to register and participate, religious leaders can help make possible the election of a body that represents justice-seeking, pro-democracy Eritreans throughout the diaspora.
I therefore humbly appeal to all religious leaders to use their moral and spiritual authority to persuade and encourage all those who care about the plight of the Eritrean people to register and participate in this important election process. Such participation can help facilitate the effort to end the misery of the Eritrean people and open the way toward democratic change.
My Appeal to Eritrean Social Media Networks and Websites
I am fully aware of the tireless efforts Eritrean social media networks and websites have made to serve as a voice for the oppressed Eritrean people. I give them full credit for providing platforms where justice-seeking Eritreans can exchange views, discuss the challenges facing our people, and explore ways to make a meaningful contribution toward ending the suffering of Eritreans at home.
My appeal to all Eritrean social media outlets and websites at this critical time is to give their full support to the Registration and Election Commission. I urge them to encourage all justice-seeking, pro-democracy Eritreans in the diaspora to register and participate in the election of a legitimate representative body that can coordinate the efforts of Eritreans abroad in the struggle for democratic change in Eritrea.
In conclusion, dear pro-justice and pro-democracy fellow Eritreans, if we are serious about ending the misery of our people, I appeal to you to take the minimum but essential first step: register. Registration is the beginning of meaningful participation in the election of a legitimate Eritrean national force for democratic change.
Victory to the Eritrean People!
Eternal Glory to Our Martyrs!
