    Here I am finally, sorry for the extended impediment.
    Araya, you have a point .And I do understand your point. I am not sure if I understood it with same angle as you do, however; let me explain the way I see and understand your point.
    When I said the best interest of Eritrea is to live in mutual respect and harmony with Ethiopia, because that is the best option of overall. If the Ethiopians can stop treating Eritrea like a property and respecting her as a nation and people, we can offer each other mutual economic prosperity, defense pack and cultural diversity. The benefits are enormous. However, depending how we Eritreans set our house going to determined.
    For the option I have chosen to work, there are to do lists that Eritrea internally must have to do before imparking in to mutual cooperation with Ethiopia. Without those must to do things, in fact, mutual cooperation with Ethiopia is a great mistake for Eritrea.
    When we say mutual respect with Ethiopia, we really are talking about the Tigryans. Not that the Amhara and Oromo won’t matter but the Tigryans are more geographically, language and culture relevant to Eritrea. Therefore, when we say mutual respect and peaceful coexistence starts within the tigryans. The danger is giving the similarities and cultural relevance between Tigryans and the highlander of Christian Eritreans, they will create strong affinity, so strong, their kinship will leave Eritrean lowlander Muslims not only marginalized but simply a second class citizens in their own country. In this case, the Eritrea we all dreamt will never be realized, therefore, if this is the case, your option is absolutely necessary. Shut every freaking border and let them mind their business and let us mind ours. Therefore, I have to agree with you.

    There are many people on this forum they bend so much for Ethiopia; you will think they are Ethiopians. They think all kinds of cooperation with Ethiopia are a good thing. Isn’t so; last time the Tigryans and the highlander Christians slept together, they eliminate ELF ( supposed be a lowlanders and Muslims organization) and to reward each other, one of Eritrea sovereign land was given( Badime) as gift and it turns out, we are still paying for it. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. NO.
    The only way the new cooperation between Ethiopia and Eritrea that will work and benefit Eritrea is, if the lowlanders and Muslims of Eritrea are empowered in every way business of the nation. So, the first order of business for Eritrea is to empower the lowlanders and Muslims of Eritrea. As the way it stands, you cannot build a viable nation when the entire lowland and Muslims are marginalized. We can deny all we want but right now, I am guessing, 90% even more, is occupied by highlander Christians. On the top of this unfair distribution of occupation, you add a relationship with Tigyans; those two groups will become too potent and robust to be challenged by any Eritrean lowlanders and Muslims. So, if the Eritrean Muslim lowlanders are empowered and participated in all Eritrean political affairs, it equilibrates and minimizes the potency of the Tigryans and Eritrean highlanders’ kinship. Once the lowlanders and Muslims are strong enough and empowered enough to stand to any unfair deals between the Tigryans and Eritrean highlanders, then the mutual respect cooperation with Ethiopia will be the best interest of Eritrea as well as best interest for Ethiopia. This way both will benefit.
    Regarding war-style conventional or non-conventional is a topic that interests me the most. I can’t comment what exactly I have in my mind at the moment. But it is something needs to be taken seriously. To give you an idea, I am thinking Eritrean future army to be Egypt style military system, omitting the size and the corruption nature of it. I would like to see an army who takes the custody of the nation. An army, free of local political stand, an army does not interfere with any domestic politics and not more than 20K not only robust but highly potent. You know that sort………

To tell you the truth, I have never saw it that way. All I knew was that the Ethiopians are people of Shenkolel and I did not want to do anything with them.

PIA and his associates have done more than their shares and it is time to let the new generation to bring aboard and let them come up with their own terms selecting new, young leaders. Let PIA oversee and manage the selected new leaders. The new leaders will be under his supervising. Let him continue till his creator calls him up. Once PIA is gone, the people can come together, choose the best path to impark, call for national reconciliation, have an election, and implement the constitution and takecare the business of the people and the nation. This way there is no chance blood shade. No a chance for civil war, no a chance for interference in our affair by the likes of Ethiopia. This way we can solve our won problems by our self and we can control our destiny.
    Option two has two phases
    This option is examines the consequence of putting the fire out with Vanadium Pntoxide and Isooctane.
    (Trying to force PIA out).
    In here we have to examine two things A & B
    (A) To who are you trying to force out?
    You can say all you want and you can pretend that PIA is irrelevant, his is a dictator, has no followers, but that not true and he means and represents millions of Eritrean. You can deny all you want but of you are a truthful person; you will understand what I am trying to say. So, dealing with such a person of force, presents two glaring dangers. I am not 100% sure but I don’t think PIA ever took orders from anyone or anybody in his life. If that does not concern you enough, then I don’t think PIA took NO for answer whenever giving out orders either. When you combined those two equations and get the derivatives out of it, you better sit down, calm your nerve, take a deep breath and think it over and again. Let the house burn, let PIA take his course.

    (B) Who is doing the forcing?
    The opposition===== what opposition?
    The Ethiopians!======== I am not going to insult you!
    The opposition supported by Ethiopians======again I respect you!
    The Eritrean military ====================The generals can not have a couple of coffee together after PIA is gone, let alone lead a country
    The youth==============================screw change, give me my x-box or I rather die trying to have one.
    Then who=========================================exactly, here is your reason to let the house burn.
    Seriously who really do you have in mind to scarify, some once son, daughter, father or mother? Who?
    I truly and kindly ask you to be truthful to your self and answer it. None of the above guaranteed you that the Eritrean foundation will remain intact. You take any one of the choices; they are distractive, blood shade and suicidal. I understand you want change but what is the price of the change you are seeking? What is the cost of the change you are welling to pay? What is the action of mechanism to implement the change you are demanding? It is irresponsible and selfish to demand change at the expense of the nation’s well being. I am not saying change should not come, but all I am saying is at what price? So, Haile, I say, let the house burn!
    We can not risk it, the price that was paid is high and reckless approach to change could even be higher.

    Haile it is very interesting the way you connected the concept of self-reliance and responsibility. I meant to explain on this responsibility issue before but as usual never got around it. .
    I think we may differ in how we interpret responsibility between you and I. Correct me if I am wrong but from your writings to be responsible is to demonstrate, shout out at pal-talks and write at web-sites in opposition of the government. If that is standing up or accepting responsibilities, then, that is not for me, for two reasons.
    (A) I have made up my mind unless I proven wrong, the best way for a change in Eritrea is to let PIA run his course. Off course we, (the supporters of the government) could have helped to bring the hit to PIA and the government of Eritrea but we see a carless opposition. An opposition does not give a flying hoot about the people and country. I am not saying the government or PIA are angles and do no wrongs, but it is only them they seem to care about the country. When the unfair and illegal sanction passed, the opposition jumped in joy. The truth is the sanction will not hurt PIA or the government but the people and the country, so why support the sanction? They even support Ethiopia’s PMMZ proposal to Holt the mining just to suffocate, starve and kill the Eritrean people so the rest would rise-up against PIA and the government. How evil is that? Haile do you really want me knowing this to stand up against the government of Eritrea, do you really.
    The oppositions don’t even have the balls to call out TPLF about the legally concluded border ruling. Come-on.Haile. we know you hate PIA and his government but Show us you care about the people and the country, you will be stunned beyond your imagination the magnitude of hit we can deliver to PIA and his government.

    (B) I impark in accepting a higher and daring responsibilities
    Since a little boy all I heard was my parents talking about Eritrea. The battle grounds, the victories, the defeats, the atrocities, that was committed by the Ethiopians against the people in general and the children of Eritrea in particular. Not only I heard it all, but I studied it to the bone. It has become part of my life. I did not ask to be Eritrean, I was dealt with one. I have a choice; I can wash my hands and go on with my life and try to live with what the west has to offer. Get a job, buy a house, get married, have kids, be stress out, get fat, get bold and die, that is what all about life in the west, really!! That is the most boring and a waste of life for me. I am not saying it is wrong but not for me, I rather join the gangs in my old neighborhood, have fun and check out lean and clean. This is the main reason I have a problem with young Eritreans who are dying to get to the west. What is in the west?
    (I know the people who are shading crocodile tears at the moment over the death of the young Eritreans, never took the responsibility. When they talk about their slavery life in the west they make it look like they live in heaven. So, what is so shocking if the young wanted the peace of the “heaven”?)
    I do believe everyone has a purpose in life. If not what separates you from a pig in Zimmerman’s farm land?
    Speaking for myself, I do believe I have a purpose, I do believe I can make a difference and I do believe there is a reason I exist and I intend to make it count.
    For different people there is different reason what keeps them up during a night. For me some, the subject of how you insure and secure the future generation of Eritrea is unavoidable. After all the suffering the people and the country went through, how exactly would you defend, protect and preserve what their fathers and mothers handed to them with untold suffering.
    When I scout the neighboring countries, I fear Ethiopia the most, Ethiopia is the greatest threat and peril to the well being of Eritrea. What is equally true is; the best interest of Eritrea is to leave with peace and mutual respect with Ethiopia. There is a catch with that catchy phrase though, in order to grantee the peace and the mutual respect; you must have the fire power that is intact and ready to go behind your good intention of peaceful coexistence. How do you balance and get it to work? The Ethiopians are heading to be 100 million within the next couple of decades, while Eritrea’s futures are drowning in high sea and expect very little population growth. Do the Ethiopians feel the same way as Eritreans for peaceful mutual respect coexistence? Or do they flex their muscle banking on their population advantage? If indeed the Ethiopians feel to flex their muscle, how should Eritrea defend her self? Defend her children?
    It is obvious Eritrea is at great disadvantage when it comes to human resources but what can Eritrea do to offset that advantage?
    Can Eritrea afford to match Ethiopian fire power and weaponry? Is conventional warfare the way out for Eritrea? Eritrea lost 65K to 70K in 30 years bloody war, yet Eritrea lost 20K lives in 2 years. The question is whenever the Ethiopians feel to attack Eritrea; can Eritrea afford at that rate of losing human lives and distraction of properties’ that we witnessed in last border war?
    Haile, somebody got to figure it out and must have an answer for it and that is a hack of responsibility.
    At that If I am wrong I will stand corrected, if I sound ignorant I will learn. I am open.

      One thing you agreed with us so far is Issayas has to go. But your choice is let nature take care of it…..means natural death. The reasons for all of that is Issayas couldn’t get direction or orders from others, so he will fight to the end. That is not the answer for a young like you whose generation is perishing because of his policy. That wasn’t the courage and humanity of your fathers. They humanity because they were sensitive to the injustice befallen to our people. They were courageous because they fought persistently by giving the ultimate price “their lives.” So nitric how did you abandon the value of the preceding generation. Think about it it is your generation perishing everywhere inside Eritrea and outside Eritrea. If you can’t stand for your generation you can’t stand for anything.

        You are missing the point. I don ‘t care who leads Eritrea. I am just concerned about the nation her self. PIA takes Eritrea as his child and if anyone tried to take his chiled away by force, he will fight you till the end. In a process the opportunistic groups will get a great chance to undue the nation her existence. So, I really don’t care who leads the country I just want the country to exist. If we are carless with what to do, then the end of Eritrea is not that far.
        Regarding the youth I think you are confusing the issue.
        Do you want the youth to stay home and fight or do you want them to flee and save their selves? If you wanted them to fight, then you got to be with me, be against them or support their exsdos.

      Nitric, I read your post few days back. I meant to ask you the following questions but the tragedy interrupted my thought process.
      You said it is the best interest of Eritrea to live in peace and on mutual respect with Ethiopia. For one I disagree. In theory, it is the best idea but in practicality, it is a wishful thinking. If you ask me, they are impossible to reason with. I think, it is the best idea to close the borders and lets us mind our business and let them do the same. They have been our source of misery in the past and they will continue to be.
      When you say is conventional warfare the way out for Eritrea, what do you mean by that?

    Thanks for waiting up:) I was thinking about and composing a response, when I had to deal with few other unexpected extra things here in the cyber and out of it. Some people throw up conspiracy theory when I slow down (such as haile is lurking with a knife, or that he is too timid to get out of his comfort zone, NIsaias kglbT gieze ayAkhelon…) It reminds me a funny cartoon that Shabait posted when IA was reported to have passed away :-)Any way, it is great to finally get to it.

    I was impressed by the personal story you shared, I say what a fine young man you are! It has also given me some insight to realistically tune my points for the debate (that is with the newly acquired knowledge of your background). You made your points clearly that Self-reliance is a strongly cherished value in your life and that the good for Eritrea and its future are the important yardsticks by which you gauge the support you would lend to a cause.

    Before getting to business, however, let me correct two unsubstantiated claims you made that breached my trust if you are going to hold steady with intellectual honesty:

    1 – My records all over the place as regards the fact that I find it abhorrent to use terminal labels as “Nazis” , “slave” and so forth towards my fellow Eritreans regardless of how far we diverge in views and core beliefs.

    2 – I have a well established complaints as to the fact that we, as people, do not have responsible and responsive form of organized opposition. I, as an Eritrean, oppose the acts of the Eritrean regime. It is not intellectually honest to lump me with organized opposition groups who happen to have various origins and tendencies (I am referring to “you the opposition”).

    Self-Reliance

    I do not believe that Self-Reliance is a bad thing. It is a good thing.

    I do not believe that the regime is wrong to follow that principle. I think it neither believes in it nor practices it. It simply uses the term as an empty rhetoric to trap the nation under its oppressive rules.

    Self-reliance as a concept is a component part of RESPONSIBILITY. By responsibility, I am talking about one’s ownership of decisions and consequences. Let me share an inspiring thing that I was once told by a friend who is a father. His daughter was due to take her flight at the airport and remembered that she had forgotten to bring her passport with her. Well, she calls the dad at work and here is how the conversation went:

    daughter: hey dad, I forgot to bring my passport.
    dad: oh…damn. I see you got a problem.
    daughter: I need your help…if you would?
    dad: sure, I don’t mind to give you some ideas on how to deal with such problems:)
    daughter: dad! my flight is due!

    dad: well,
    1- one way to deal with it is to just forget about your travel plan.
    2 – Or to try to dash home and get it and hope you make it on time to catch the flight.
    3 – Or you could discuss with the airline personnel on ways you could re-arrange your flight and make a phone call to your destination to let them know that you’ll be late.
    4 – Or you can just swear at every person you go past and try to push your way to the plane!

    She chose to do #3.

    I am sure that many people would curse the father for not succumbing to own his daughter’s problem. But by doing so, he would have taught her that it is fine to expect others to solve HER PROBLEMS. It would have projected low expectation of him about his daughter’s ability to work through her problems. And most importantly, he would have not been able to set a clear example of RESPONSIBILITY.

    So Nitricc responsible individuals and entities are naturally self-reliant. Those who deffer their problems to be solved by others are not. Responsibility is a self-reliant trait of problem solving. Each problem presents us with possible choices of actions. Our chosen course of action for solving it is our decision. The consequence of that decision would also be our responsibility to handle. In short, choice=consequence in the theory of the calculus of responsibility (or Response-Ability).

    Therefore, responsibility is a sufficient and necessary condition for self-reliance. That means responsible people/entities are self-reliant and self-reliant people/entities are responsible by the very definition in the process of owning the choice-consequence conundrum. Of course, one delicate allowance is the fact that not being self-reliant doesn’t necessarily mean not being responsible (since people my not be self-reliant for reasons that are beyond their control).

    In order to tie up the foregoing introduction, I can now challenge you to find a single area of failure that the regime in Eritrea has taken responsibility of. Again, I would challenge you as an Eritrean citizen, to give me a single area of Eritrea’s current problems that you have taken responsibility to tackle other than to lament the failure or the non-existence of a viable opposition? Suppose there is a fire burning in your family home, would you do what you can to put it out or blame the slow and disorganized nature of your local fire station in responding to the crisis?

    I believe that a vast number of the Eritrean people sacrificed so much for Eritrea’s independence and made good on their promise to roll up their sleeves in re-building it. The current regime of IA, which is neither responsible nor self-reliant, squandered all of that. The Berlin 13 and later G-15 have made a viable proposal for Eritrea to move forward post the border conflict. They proposed for the constitution to be implemented, transparency and accountability as well as transition to democratic governance. So, this answers your challenge that you asked me to present you with one thing that the opposition proposed to make head ways with our nation-building.

    As, we know, they were exposed to conditions that one wouldn’t wish to their erstwhile enemies. YOU abdicated your RESPONSIBILITY (as did many of us) to stand up and oppose the actions. Instead, you settled to the wisdom of faceless and nameless security forces to know what they’re doing. How responsible is that for a citizen of a nation, whose long term stability and viability you professed to be paramount in your deliberations. In fact, how self-reliant is that?

    You agree that the current regime of IA doesn’t make its books transparently open, doesn’t set national budget, makes use of special courts. This makes it patently clear that you have not been presented with the necessary information to ascertain if the work of the regime is indeed self-reliant. Yet, you relied on your preconceived notions to associate it with self-reliance. How responsible decision making is that? Given that the fate of the Eritrean people may depend on how things would pan out as a result of the irresponsible acts of the regime (it hosted a Somali national Dahir Aways wanted by the UN on terrorism charges, for four years in the country, refused to denounce al-shabab only to make a u-turn, squandered the tender years of the youth to tell you we’ve failed in what we’ve done so far, arrested and killed high profile Eritreans who have given all they had to bring about the nation…) how responsible is that you chosen to lend your 100% support blind folded?

    If you ask me what I admire about IA and his comrades from the period of their struggle, it is that what happened early on. When the then youth decided to confront the Ethiopian rulers and their powerful backers, they had a a concept of the problem at the time. And took it upon themselves to do something about it – Responsibility. They didn’t go to join the Ethiopian youth association – analogous to YPFDJ. They decided on what they later chose to do and with mounting atrocity by HMHS and later dergue, they were able to be joined by the rest of Eritrea. The key is that they recognized if not them then who? And, for you Nitricc, if not you then who? who would speak for the injustices, who would speak for the lives lost, who would speak for the opportunities squandered? Who would?

    Nitricc, IA once retorted that if one ties a chicken with a long enough rope, it would mistake it for being let to roam free! If you were today to independently organize a meeting of your fellow diaspora born Eritreans to discuss on how to work together to engage in the affairs of your country, you would be served with a letter of denunciation from the regime’s embassy based control and command center questioning your motives and backgrounds. Try it:) If you don’t stand up to your right to engage in a civil political and economic in the diaspora, as it pertains Eritreans, who would? If you can’t stand for the Eritrean farmer who can’t sell his produce in the market, Eritrean business man who can’t handle a hard currency, Eritrean fisherman who can’t sell his catch, Eritrean construction worker who can’t work in private building projects, Eritrean youth who can’t travel out of the country legally, Eritrean political prisoner who can’t see a day in court, Eritrean national service who can’t support his family, Eritrean worker who neither has old age pension or a pay rise in 20 years, Eritrean diaspora who can’t visit his country then who would? And how responsible are you as regards Eritrea and its problems? How self-reliant are you in seeking rectification to the injustices?

    The problem faced by the Eritrean people is unique in a sense. Typically, a sitting government is overthrown and in most cases replaced by a junta. If such was the case, the Eritrean people would have been in a position to close the chapter of ghedli and start to demand their rights from the new faced oppressors. What transpired in our case was that the sitting head of government was part of the crime syndicate and hence the people were somewhat puzzled and paralyzed from identifying the distinction. Many wrongly thought that the existing regime is the continuation of ghedli. Not at all. That continuum had been cut in 2001 and IA is part of the group who betrayed the nation and its enormous martyrs who paid dearly to make Eritrea a reality.

    A self-reliant regime doesn’t deny people the right to work and earn a living, it wouldn’t fan division and polarize Eritreans in the diaspora by encouraging them to take legal actions against each other to foment long term enmity among them, it wouldn’t take grossly irresponsible actions that brought the nation and its proud people to their knees and to near total isolation from the international community. It wouldn’t threaten to label you and tarnish your reputation on bases of ancestry and unverified allegations foreign allegiances to frighten you into obedience in the diaspora.

    But, since may objective was to discuss the fall of the regime, but you brought the issue of self-reliance, my assertion is that the IA regime is not a responsible regime and hence it is a contradiction in terms to identify it as self-reliant. The question is however, do you love Eritrea enough to act responsibly as an Eritrean (as in the above described premise of responsibility)?

SAAY knows it well. Anyway, sorry something came up that needs my complete attention at work that was the very reason for the delay.

    While I am researching the numbers and the reasons you have posted for the mean time let me say something rereading and rereading your post, I can’t help but to be enamored and captivated right from the get go, from the first sentence, you rained at what is dear to me, Self-reliance. I don’t think you understood the magnitude of that very idea and the way I see it.
    I debated whether to share or not what self-reliance really mean to me. After I thought about it, wediere helped me in deciding to share it. wediere told you the other day that I will lecture you about self-reliance, about something I don’t know about and I never even been to Eritrea. What wediere saying Nitricc is just blubbering because he heard PIA saying it!
    That is not true! And I felt to tell you what exactly self-reliance mean to me.
    It is wrong what wediere is saying and it is incorrect how Haile described it.
    First when we say self reliance, it is a philosophy and a principal. You may have a philosophy and a principal that you follow and believe in, but if you failed to live up to the philosophy and the principal it does not mean the philosophy or the principle is wrong. What it means is, you as a person failed to execute with level of discipline and determination. So, when Haile says self-reliance failed in Eritrea and gave all those numbers…

    ( ( which I am in a process research them and will get back to you. Although, It feels like Haile and Nitricc going to well-street to buy sell and trade bonds and Haile is trading with inside information while Nitricc is gambling blindly. Going for ward, you need to present your argument with what is known to the public, that way not only the playing fields are leveled but I can also make a reasonable stand))

    …even if what Haile is saying are true, self-reliance did nit failed but the people who are in charge executing it did.
    So; when we say self-reliance, we are spreading a philosophy, a principal and a self sustaining and self fulfilling a moral guide. Haile, I understand your opposition is good at knocking down everything that comes from the government but when was the last time your opposition came with an idea? Haile, any idea will do?
    The government will say national military service which a noble idea, to protect and rebuilt the nation; Haile’s opposition will knock it as slivery.
    The government will say self-reliance, which is a great idea; a solution to our problem, Haile’s opposition knocks it down and avoids it as if some kind of communicable disease and infection.
    The government will come and organize the youth in Diaspora, to give the chance to know their culture, heritage and country; Haile’s opposition will call them “ Nazi youth ”
    What ever the government does or tried to do, here are Haile’s opposition knocking it down. No matter what they are there to oppose.
    I ask you; Haile, tell me when the last time your oppositions came up with an idea? You are presenting all the numbers to support your claim that the government has failed, at least the government failed because they tried, when was the last time your opposition tried anything?
    Please tell me I am all ears.
    Self-reliance is a concept and seed that will be implanted in some once head. When the great Awate started the great Eritrean struggle for independence, all he did was implanted the seed in the mind of the people which a seed he knew someone will run with it to free Eritrea. It took time, failures, trial and errors, lives but the seed never failed, some one took the seed and run for it and here she is, Eritrea was born thanks to the great man Awate. So; when PIA says self-reliance, he knows some one will take it and run with it. So; for Haile to declare the death of self-reliance, it is nothing but pre ejaculation. Self-reliance does not teach you WHAT to think to solve your problems; rather it teaches you HOW to think in solving your problems. And there is a difference.
    Let me tell you this, so; may be you will understand where I am coming from. Since I can remember, when ever I ask my dad or mom for money, my dad will always replay by saying

    Meaning the principal of EPLF is self reliance. So, help your self

    The funny part is my dad can’t stand EPLF. He despises everything about EPLF as many ex-ELF Tegadelti do. The only difference, I think my dad gives Shaebia a tiny credit. He will say;
    Shaebia kilte qum neger serihom, Netsanet-n , Nebska Mikal-n anything else, you don’t want to start with him, he can’t stand EPLF and anything EPLF at all.

    My mom is less forgiving, even though ex-ELF herself, don’t care that much will only intervene when I argue with my dad in defense of EPLF, and I am wining then she will gang up with her man to let me have it.
    The point, I heard the word “Nebsika mikal” or self-reliance through out my up brining and it is ingrained in my head. Everything I do or I plan to do, I must stop and think about the word of “Nebsika mikal” it become inescapable in my daily life.

    Fast forward, I graduated from high school earlier than usual and my parents were faced with their own dilemmas. They don’t want to send me to collage because they felt I was too young and they don’t want me to have all that free time doing nothing. They understood the consequence of free time and the neighborhood I was living at that time. As brilliant as they are, they got me full time and part-time job, I worked at two super markets pushing those freaking shopping carts from all over the parking lot back to the store; tell you what, it sucked. While I am working and saving money, the talk for collage preparation was in a full swing. Every night in the dinner table, the conversation was about me going to college, going to private versus State Universities, what the costs are, what I should major, of course medical school, law school and computer science were my parents’ choice of discipline. No, it did not matter what I thought of it.
    (I thought it was just my parents doing the choosing but when I talk to some people at YPFDJ I learned it is an Eritrean parent’s thing to do)
    With every day, I can see and feel the stress my parents are going through. Just to sit and listen to them going through costs was the most excruciating experience for me. I was primed and wired all the way to Nebsika-Mikal and the idea of self-sustaining, yet here I am sitting and listing to the talk of the strategy of how to rap their life saving and being a burden of all. I just couldn’t understand it. As much as I loved school, I started to dislike the idea of going to collage. I am throne apart to no end. At one point I was leaning to say screw school and just work and then I know that idea won’t flay with my parents. What to do was the order of very day. Then here it comes six weeks after my 18 birthday. I wrote a letter explaining everything I felt to my parents, took $ 500 my won money, I left the rest with letter and I took a bus out of town, never looked back, I join the Air force.
    As devastated as I was, since day one, in my cadet days, I took education in the most seriously matter. Not that I fully understood the importance of education but I want to impress and satisfy my parents. My parents drilled the importance of education; it was part of my daily diet. So; in my mind I was trying to make it up for the pain I have inflicted upon them, I know they will be crushed. The cadet life has it is own story but it wasn’t that easy. The day starts at 5.30 AM and it does not end till 10.30 PM. I gave it everything I had and at the end, I did very, very well. I graduated in decent order; I was assigned to higher education almost immediately.
    Ever since, the door just opened wide with endless opportunity to learn, grow and be everything I wanted to be. Honestly I couldn’t have written any better script for my self. I did not plan it the way it turns out, it just did and At that, I give all the credit to EPLF, PIA and my dad for introduce me with this powerful idea the idea of self reliance. With out the concept of Nebsika-Mikal, I don’t see my self leaving home and taking chances and risks I have taken. This is the very reason I admire PIA’s vision when he talks about self-reliance. He is just implanting the seed of self-reliance just as Awate did for the seed of independent Eritrea. This is why I go euphoric and I am totaled with the very idea of self-reliance.
    Haile this is my story and the idea of self reliance, and this is what I have learned from EPLF, PFDJ, Eritrean government, call them what ever you want. My question to you is what shall I learn from the beloved opposition?
    In other words, What value, worth, philosophy or principal do you think your opposition offer out there that an Eritrean kid, any 18 years old kid can be motivated enough worth taking a risk for? I do hope you answer me or any other wanna be opposition.
    Please, mention one. I am willing to listen, learn and accept. Again, tell me, Please!

        at one point I asked you to look into the mirror, when you assumed Haile to be a government employee and he should not stand against his employer, while we know you always did when it came to Eritrea. the point is, standing up for public good is paramount, be it an insider or not an Eritrean has to put his people first not the whims of one man.

        Don’t be distracted by my response, stay steady with Haile as it will not be fair to you to battle many of us here, even though your determination and zeal ” nebsikha keal” is known to knock many at once :).

        When i say, your experience on Eritrea is limited like that of YPFDJ, it is because in our old debate you were a character that made us wonder a lot, not only that it was also clear from the lack of knowledge of some items even visiting YPFDJ would know. At the same time you were studying to minute details battles of the past ..it come with carrreer and the associated self reliance appeal.

        When I gave Haile a clue about the important topic, SELF RELIANCE ( not that I disbelieved in the concept ) it is to make the match less painful :), actually to focus and deal with what matters to you most.

        Forget the opposition, their failure or success, maybe a curse or blessing, but it should not be a reason to blindly support the government or DIA. Regardless of the opposition, the government should be accountable and serve the people it governs.

        You mentioned your parents concerned about you and wanting to chip in with what they had, the government should do the same not overburden the people.
        You wanted to be self reliant….isn’t that what the people want….to be left alone…be self reliant.

        I am currently halfway reading the book by SG ” MIRIAM WAS HERE……” Check it out, it covers the last 20years, people struggle for self reliance and how it was made difficult, the toll on the nation from the multiple wars and a great description of the 1998-2000 war from those who took the brunt of it…at times they were blamed as cowards, traitors or xbox seekers…..( those battle details I have heard from individuals who participated it and now they live with PTSD and other mental problems that makes them incapable to be self sufficient in Western nation) .Talk about double failure …to nation and people…consider the damage we will left with for LIes we buy into, so I say ..

        I also believe you are not an egomaniac that when TRUTH is plain and clear, you will not reject so you don’t look you failed. Your great character will show when you accept evidence be it for you or against you….I have seen that trait in you…as I said unlike some hypocrites.

    – It is great to have a government that is oriented to develop a self-reliant society. Eritrea doesn’t have one, as you would hopefully open your eyes today!

    – It is great to have a government that would be prepared to slow political progress in exchange to achieving tangible and marked progress in reforming and developing the country. Eritrea doesn’t have one.

    – Every Eritrean worth his/her salt is happy for anything of value/worth that happens in Eritrea. When it comes to thanking someone for it, please give credit where credit is due (based on that someone’s role). In the case of the regime in Eritrea, its role has been of wanton criminality that requires it to stand trial and not be a party in the process worthy of any Eritrean’s gratitude

    – All Eritreans who oppose the regime are not opposition. In order to be an opposition, one needs to be member of a formed opposition group. Many are activists and others are just silent spectators who are aware of the follies of the regime but do nothing.

    – It is mindlessly horrific to think that many fathers and mothers who perished in the seas and deserts to escape the regime, yet never heard of Xbox, are callously referred to by you as xbox seekers.

    Analysis:

    The regime in Eritrea is far from self-reliant economically, politically or socially. Eritrea today is one of the most heavily indebted countries that has been allowed for some debt cancellation and other relief packages. It has borrowed from the world bank, the Export bank of China, African and European development funds, bilateral and NGO sources to the tune of billions of dollars for projects and public works that were used to abuse the youth beyond imagination, to the point of the latter leaving the country at great perils. The good news is that despite the regime’s scandalous attempt to hide this fact under the ruse of “national security”, every penny that it borrowed, every borrower application that it submitted, every mid-term and closing appraisals conducted by third parties on its borrowing is in a public domain and open for everyone to see.

    Talking of who to thank for public sector development and reconstruction works that have been conducted over the last couple of decades, you need to first identify the who the candidates are that need to be considered for this merit. Before that however, we need to know what the work was and how it was done. A simple entry point would be, say, to take one such project and analyse it. Let’s take, for example, the project undertaken to rehabilitation and expansion of the Massawa and Assab ports. In 1997 the world bank approved a $30.3 million loan to rehabilitate the ports of Massawa and Assab. The project was estimated to cost $57.6 million and the Italian government supplied $21 million towards the project. The remaining $6.3 was agreed to be offset by the Eritrean regime*. The objective of the project, for which the loan agreement was signed on on the 18th day of the month of November 1997, was declared to be that “(a) address the urgent port capacity requirement; (b) optimize the use of existing facilities by rehabilitating and upgrading the two ports of Massawa and Assab; and (c) increase substantially the productivity and capacity of the two ports to international standards.”

    Based on mid-term progress report completed on meeting the objectives, it was reported that “The project is moving towards achieving its objectives: Most of the original project activities have been successfully completed.” **

    Now bear in mind that IA has as recently as a couple weeks ago came an told us “The ports can’t meet local domestic demands leave alone regional and international demand” in his very own words, it is a case of either he is telling falsehood now or the above declaration made during the mid-term review is false. Because both are mutually exclusive, it can’t be said developed and undeveloped at the same time. Which one is it?

    The above is however a minor issue as compared to the more sinister nature of things as you dig further. The regime had limited contracting works (all of the civil work side of the project) to be undertaken internally owing to its alleged policy of “boosting local employment!” When you look at the final financial information completed after the closing of the project in 2008, the big chunk of the money was written out to “Civil works”. However, the work was completed (whatever was said to be completed) by members of the national service at meager wages of 600ERN per month. The youth were normally separated from their families, endured hard labour, sustained injuries and many fled the country some falling pray tragedies on seas and deserts. It is a simple arithmetic to check if the figures reconcile by comparing the money drawn from the loan for “civil works” and the actual payments made to those national service recruits who were made to engage on those aspects of the project. I tell you that most of the money was siphoned off and I challenge you to obtain this information from the ministry of public works in Eritrea without being liquidated for allegations of “national security threat”.

    The same can be put to evaluation as regards the $100 million dollar earmarked for human resource development and the health sector by the World Bank and other bilateral loans. The same about the funds borrowed to demobilize an allegedly “200,000 members of the forces who needed $330 per person re-re-integration sum as well as psychological support and consultancy”! It was siphoned off, and show us your resolve to get information without being liquidated.

    Currently people are talking about water shortages in Asmara. Let me break it to you Nitricc that old pipelines and the likes aren’t the problem. In order to provide a running water in household taps, the water undergoes processing, the state doesn’t have the hard currency to purchase the materials and chemicals needed to do so and hence the regime has resorted to filling up spring water and moving it around the city in trucks. It is a scandal that many YPFDJ youth had serious illness during their 2012 Sawa visit because they were given contaminated water for drinking. Some had to be rushed out of the country for treatment. The regime had borrowed millions of dollars in the past to to upgrade the water distribution system in Asmara. The same for guaranteeing electricity supply and so forth. But, all that has disappeared without trace!

    The regime has used development project, forced labour, corrupt army top brass and gullible diaspora to emasculate, impoverish and destroy Eritreans and Eritrean spirit. No one supports it in Eritrea out of honest appreciation of what it does. It is a criminal entity.

    Here is my question to you Nitricc: I would like to thank somebody for the project undertaken to rehabilitate the ports for example, Who should I thank:

    i. The youth who were made to work on them with callous disregard of their human worth

    ii. The Eritrean people who now have a debt to service for as long as it takes to pay off in full

    iii. The World bank and other bilateral partners who were willing to offer the bulk of the money

    iv. The Eritrean regime that is refusing to account its books and claims there is no port worth speaking. The regime is also responsible for horrific crimes against the desperate youth (Whom you referred to as xbox seekers) to use them in its wanton destruction the nation’s future.

    Who should I thank Nitricc?

    Your lack of appreciation that the regime of IA is really fighting for its survival is also common to many who judge things based on manufactured propaganda. Nonetheless, I will elaborate this aspect separately; least I wouldn’t wish to over bear you with a separate topic here. But rest assured, things have long taken a dangerous turn.

      Are you saying the government made a wrong investment and wasted resources.
      Or are you saying the government took out the money under phantom project and packeted among the higher government brass?

        Hi Nitricc

        A bit of both. Here is how it works. The projects are proposed to maximize borrowing potential rather than meet existing demand. Take for example the airport that IA recently said is “idle but would be useful for the future.” We know how much the regime received for labor costs, but it is not willing to make public how much it paid to the national service laborers. The gap is huge. How is then this money siphoned is the matter for investigation. Did IA spend it for personal needs or to pay for activities that were not budgeted for by “parliament” such as Eastern-Sudan front, Somali Re-liberation front, other Ethiopian groups? We would only know if it opens up for investigation as requested by SEMG and others. I know for example that national service personnel in the Ministry of Education are used to write school curriculum, yet the regime has borrowed money from the World Bank in 2009 for such purposes and the University of Asmara was listed as the service provider. However, the University had completely been closed three years earlier having graduated its last batch.

        The top brass are given free hand without oversight to engage in criminal activities. For example, if you wish to do minor repair on the exterior of your home in Asmara today, it is unlawful and you face fines or jail (although not common). However, you can pay some military commanders and the city controller would turn blind eye. If you want exit visa nowadays, it costs 300,000 Nakfa for those at immigration to split four or five ways and you get your exit visa. Military commanders in Gash Barka often return to their family to Asmara on break and when they do they bring smuggled gasoline from Tesseney to be sold in the street of Asmara. This is on top of free hand to virtually use free labor to build homes, to take land, to exchange money in the black market and what have you.

        The diaspora is mostly confused and doesn’t see the distinction between Ghedli and the current corrupt and diabolical regime running the country to the ground. They confuse opposing it and demanding accountability to a fight against hizbawi ginbar harnet ertra of pre 91. They are happy to believe photo-shopped pictures and ERiTV manufactured propaganda to go to sleep quietly.

        So, my answer is essentially, the regime uses projects you can call phantom (but many are somewhat completed although at a huge cost to the future stablity and viability of our country).

        Just another example is the 1300 enda korea housing complexes that were sold to the diaspora in dollars, were actually paid for by a debt of $100 million from World Bank by the Eritrean people. The objective was to improve leaving standards of the people there not diaspora, but the regime cut both ways and siphoned off large sums of money!

    ሽም እንተቀይርኩም ሃቡኒ ክወስዳ:-
    ክፋል ናይ ታሪኸይ ኣብ መዝገብ ከስንዳ:-
    ዋዛ ከይመስለኩም ሃንደበት ዝኽሕዳ:-
    ክንደይ ባህሊ ዘለዋ ሳዕሳዕዒት ምስ ኹዳ::

    መዓስ ተወስ ኢለን ጀበና ከይሓዛ:-

    ኣያ ፍቃዱ ‘ ኳ ስዊድን ዘለው:-
    መዓልቲ ነይሕሉፉ ቡን ከየቅለው::
    ዂቶኦም ተኸዲኖም ማዕሪጎም ኮፍ ይብሉ:-
    ምስ ብዓልቲ ቤቶም ዓጀው ጀው ክዕልሉ::

    መተካእታ የብሉን ‘ቲ ባህልና:-
    ‘ቲ ሱር መሰረት ‘ ቲ ያታና:-

    ኣውስትራልያ ኪድ ሲንጋፑር:-

    ኮታ ወዲ ኤረ እንተልዩ ኣብ ‘ታ ሃገር

    ከቢድ ፍቕረይን ሓልዮተይን ርእኽም:-

    “ካብ ማርስ እያ ዝወደይ ጓለይ ልኢኻታ:-
    ናብ ጓለይ ድማ ካብ ሎንደን መጺኣታ”

    ናብ ለንዶን ከ ድኣ ከመይ ኢላ ከደት:-
    ክንደይ ባሕሪ ሰጊራ ብሰላም በጸሐት?
    “እንድዒ ዝወደይ” በለትኒ ኣደይ ክብረት
    ኢሂ ድኣ እንተበልኩ ክትነግረኒ:-
